The 500kV Darkstar Substation is part of the overall Edwards Sanborn Solar and Energy Storage, Phases 2, 3, & 4 project in Mojave, CA. Phase 2, 3, & 4 consisted of a 650MW Photovoltaic electric power plant & BESS facility along with 3-230kV & 1-500kV substations, and 11 miles of 230kV Transmission Line spread over 2,550 acres.

CBI Power, Inc., scope of services, included civil install for the 4 substations with Darkstar being the second and largest. The work included clear and grub of the site area, approximately 2300 cubic yards of concrete install spread between drilled shafts, slab foundations, oil containments, and tilt-up blast walls. CBI Power crews utilized specialty gang form systems for the 26’ tall x 35’ wide cast-in-place blast walls separating the 7 multi-phase transformers. CBI Power completed all work ahead of schedule. Darkstar Substation will tie into the 500kV Southern California Edison’s Windhub Substation to supply power to the Los Angeles Basin.
