Milestones at Gonzaga Ridge: Turbines Rise and Substation Takes Shape

August, 2025

Foundations complete, turbine installation underway, and O&M building construction in progress at Gonzaga Ridge Wind Farm.

The Gonzaga Ridge Wind Farm Substation Project continues to make impressive strides as the team achieves several major construction milestones. Since the last update, crews have completed all foundation pours for the turbines and substation equipment — including the final grout placements. With electrical subcontractors now onsite, steel installation is well underway, and turbine erection has reached new heights.

Currently, five turbines are fully assembled with blades installed, while nine more have been built up through their mid-sections. Using the top-out crane, teams are placing the nacelles — the powerhouse of each turbine — followed by the hub and blades. Once each turbine is topped out, the crane will move systematically across the site to continue installation at additional towers.

On the ground, progress continues at the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) building, which will house offices, restrooms, showers, and a warehouse space for ongoing turbine monitoring and maintenance. Crews are finalizing subgrade preparation and rebar installation ahead of slab and footing pours.

With nearly 200 workers on site, maintaining strong communication and safety practices is crucial. Daily and end-of-day coordination meetings ensure every scope — from crane operations to electrical work — runs smoothly and safely.

As the project nears completion, the site has transformed into a dynamic hub of renewable energy development. Soon, travelers along Highway 152 will see the full array of turbines standing tall, symbolizing innovation, teamwork, and the continued growth of clean energy in California.
